Named after the eminent educationist and political leader of repute, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the college was formally established vide Govt Order No. 3257 / 70-5-40(61)/91 Dated : Sept 25, 1997 and imparts instructions in the disciplines of three faculties : Arts ( 370 Seats), Science ( 184 Seats ) & Commerce ( 246 Seats ) with subjects in Arts Faculty - Hindi , Sanskrit , English , Political Science , Ancient History, Culture & Archaeology , Geography , Philosophy , Defence & Strategic Studies, in the Faculty of Science ; Zoology , Botany , Physics Chemistry , Maths and Computer Science as a self-financed course in lieu of Chemistry and Commerce . 20 new teaching posts have been created by the UGC in February 2015.
