Overview
The Kosi region in the north of the state of Bihar is spread over two divisions of Purnea and Saharsa and suffers from the lack of development of road, power, education and medical facilities. Extreme economic backwardness has led to ill health and lack of education for the people of this region. Meritorious students of the region in general and Muslim youths in particular can ill afford to go elsewhere for medical, technical and other professional education. Moreover the common man, the ailing people of the area could not afford to go to distant places for specialized treatment. In view of the aforesaid, there has always been a crying need for a medical college and a hospital in this part of Bihar which has a Muslim population of about 40%, most of whom exist below the poverty line.
