Shree Sahjanand Arts & Commerce College, Ahmedabad was established and managed under Devendraprasadji Kelavani Trust. Recollecting the educational scenario of sixties during which the college was established Prof. Nanakram J Tindwani, the Head of the Department of English and one of the lecturers of the team that started the college notes Early sixties in Gujarat were crucial years for college education and the teaching community. There was increasing boom in the number young men and women seeking college education. Those who got post graduate degrees with optimum scores were easily absorbed as lecturers in degree colleges. However, 15th March of every year was supposed to be a day of tremendous anxiety and tension for them. Since all the colleges affiliated to Gujarat University were private colleges, the managements enjoyed absolutely dictatorial powers of retaining or relieving the lecturers.
