About Gujarat National Law University

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a National Law Universityestablished under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003" in the state of Gujarat.[1] It is one of the most prestigious law schools in India. The university is located at Gandhinagar, which is the capital of Gujarat and is located 7 kilometers north of the city of Ahmedabad. The statute provides that the Chief Justice of India or a Senior Supreme Court Judge serve as theVisitor of the university. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Bimal N. Patel, an internationally acclaimed scholar and United Nations civil servant serves as the chief administrator. The university started in 2004 and has five batches of 160 students each under training. The batch strength has been increased to 180 from 160 from the academic year 2013-2014. It is ranked as the 5th Best Law school in the country as of 2013. The university is recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and University Grants Commission (UGC) (2f & 12b). The university is also member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the university is functioning as nodal agency to uplift the legal education in the State of Gujarat. It is ranked as the fastest growing law school in India. It is also listed in the prestigious List of Institutes of National Importance.
